Grizedale Forest Park and Visitor Centre, www.forestry.gov.uk/grizedaleforestpark (01229 860010) two miles north of Force Mill Guest House and just south of Hawkshead, is the Forestry Commission’s leisure and amenity centre in Lakeland. The Park has 2,500 hectares/over 6,000 acres of mixed woodlands threaded through with footpaths, sculpture trails, forest tracks, bike trails and green lanes for easy walking, cycling, riding, flower observation (orchids, etc) and bird watching. Many of the trails including the longest all round Grizedale, the Silurian Way, can be joined from our front gate, so allowing guests to leave their vehicles parked off-road with us while they enjoy a day's exploration.

At the Forest Centre, one of the starting-points for many woodland trails, there is car parking, a café, shop for maps and souvenirs, cycle shop and cycle hire (tel: 01229 860369), and…
Go-Ape, the hugely popular treetop adventure (www.goape.co.uk)
Sculpture trails, with 70 intriguing forest sculptures by many artists.
Cycling and mountain biking offer many chances for exploring most of the forest and the sculptures on a day visit
Mountain bike North Face Trail, purpose-built one direction singletrack combining various surfaces of narrow and twisty trail under 1m wide, forest road, cambered boardwalk with drop-offs, large stones, steps, berms, water crossings, loop the loop, varying gradients, etc etc.
